We didn't get much sleep last night because there was a train passing every 30 minutes....Our tents were positioned in a corn field and we startled a couple of farmers who were getting ready to go to work in the morning....They were a little hesitant to approach two men sporting spandex...but we managed to explain to them what exactly we were doing to ensure they didn't feel threatened.
We did a lot of climbing. The first part of our day was climbing for 30 km and we reached an elevation of 2351 meters. We took a moment to enjoy the landscape and then we ventured down into a town called Longde.
We went through many villages
thoughout this mountain stage and handed out equipment to many children and youth. We always make an effort to demonstrate some skills, introduce some games and play with the kids. It is very difficult for the children in this region to obtain any equipment so they are very thankful to receive the opportunity to play.
The most comical moment of the day was when we stopped at a village before lunch. We met a few children and they were accompanied by a few adults. There was an elderly women who was determined to get a ball for one of her grandchildren; however, we are usually hesitant to handout equipment when the child is not present...Then all of a sudden she decided to take a ball and attempt to run up the hill....It was a similar to the scene in the movie "Happy Gilmore" when "Shooter McGavin" attempted to run for the hills with Mr.Gilmore's gold jacket, but didn't get very far...The elderly women started running uphill and was holding onto the ball a little too tight and it fell out of her hands and rolled right back down the hill right into my hands...In the end the kids escorted us into the village to ensure her grandchildren were not forgotten....
We worked hard today and we are spending the night 20 km passed Jing Ning. We found a better spot to setup camp and we are going to need our rest for another day of hills tomorrow....
