Bags, bikes, tools and trailers packed, Cyril and I were ready to leave China...but somehow we booked our flights at different airports and one of us was doomed to run into a few challenges with the airline China eastern....Cyril made it to Laos yesterday and I am currently in Kunming waiting for the snow storm to pass! My flight was delayed out of Shanghai for a few hours which is common for domestic flights, but during the delay the weather in Kunming took a turn for the worst and we made a detour to Chengdu....I slept through the announcement and I didn't clue into the fact I was in another city until I made our way into the terminal greeted by a sign that says welcome to Chengdu! Saturday morning 8:30 am I was supposed to fly out of Kunming with Cyril to Laos, but my flight out of Chengdu didn't leave until 10:00am, so I missed my flight....With no other flights available Saturday, I had to sleep at a hotel lined up by the airline....let's just say I wish I would have brought my tent!
I was given a room and finally decided to put my head down for a rest when all of a sudden the door opened and an elderly Japanese man came into my room who didn't speak a word of English nor Chinese. He started to make himself at home and I asked him what he was doing in my room, assuming he was Chinese and all he would say is "yes yes" or "so so"....I went downstairs to speak to the receptionist and I was informed that the Japanese stranger was my roommate and that the airline would only provide accommodation under these conditions...haha. I am sure the Japanese man is a great guy...but I decided to call off our arranged plans....and pay for my own room...China eastern chronicles....! Sounds like Cyril is enjoying himself in the 30 degree weather in Vientiane and it looks like I am days behind in the first stage of the tour de Laos....Adventure never goes as planned, but it's the struggles we face that makes the journey so rewarding...I hope we can get on the road sooner than later....

Mr. Hayes, some of us are still in school now, and, with your "homework", we are being active everyday… although I don't know what happened to other students. With the best wish and good luck to you, to have a interesting and safe trip. Good Luck!! ["Adventure never goes as planned", it seems like it always happens in your tours. LOL…]

Ha-ha, you are lucky, Mr.Hayes, you got a few challenges with the airline China eastern! The weather in Hangzhou is bad, too. It was always raining and snowing, I can not go outside. Anyway, hope you can overcome the challenges and have a nice "30 degree" journey! See you later!
